Sustainability wins

  • Co-mingle recycle bin in ICU

  • PVC recycling

  • Moved from disposable (non-sterile) gowns to reusable

  • Recycling of batteries, e-waste

  • Recycling of “Hovermats” for re-use in an animal shelter

Current issues and ideas

  • Would like to move from disposable gowns to reusable for sterile gowns and other medical equipment

  • Aim to reduce kitchen waste and minimise disposable products

  • Incentivise active transport to work (scope 1 emissions) and aim to seek sponsorship to supply prizes - every person who walks, ride or used public transport could receive a ticket to go into the draw.

Current activities

Goals

  • Audit for contamination and education ramped up to improve co-mingle recycling

  • Reinforce processes for e-waste and recycling

  • Audit for common medical procedures so as to reinforce practice of opening only what is absolutely required

  • Revise procedural packs to remove any uncommonly used products
